Check back here regularly to find out what's going on at Woodhouse Farm and Garden CIC.
For a number of years the SCAU Group have used the farm for camping but this year they wanted to give something back and have been helping us prepare some of the community areas ready for this years visitors. Activities have included weeding, re-staining seeding and raised beds, planting vegetables seeds and flowers.
Thanks to funding from the Heritage Lottery, the Landscape Institute was able to organise Heritage Open Days around the country. Woodhouse opened it's doors and took visitors on a walk around the old Capability Brown Features including bridges and a Ha Ha that was part of the remodeled Fisherwick Estate.
Another big supporter of our project, working with SCAU has been very rewarding for us seeing children from all three of the age groups they work with enjoying camping at the farm. This year saw a very special Harry Potter Themed Camp to introduce new 7-9 years old to the joy of camping with a special visit from Hedwig arranged by the group.
We have worked with Nick and Julie from Staffordshire Care Farming Development CIC since 2010 providing a base to host Care Farming projects supporting people from Lichfield and Tamworth. Care Farming is the use of therapeutic activities involving animals, plants, and the conutryside for people recovering from mental ill health.
For the last five years our local cub group (1st Whittington) have come to the farm over three consecutive weeks to help with activities that help the growers or add to the outdoor community area. This year we had a walk around the farm looking at how we might create a walk way and at the end of the evening the boys fed the chickens.
July seems to mark the start of fruit season with Raspberries, Redcurrants and even blackvberries being picked at the moment.
